Introducing: Women’s Wrestling!

by Sophia Thao

The sport of women’s wrestling is growing steadily, and Eau Claire Memorial wants to build a community around it. Wrestling is a challenging sport which requires mental and physical skill, but with the memories and friendships you make, those sacrifices will make it worthwhile.

Anne Green, a student wrestler, said of the sport: “Immediately after I started wrestling I knew it was for me. I was in a community that valued hard work and respect, and everyone from state qualifiers to rookies were working together to help each other learn and grow. I was helped by so many amazing people at the beginning of my journey and I know the support from my friends and the team is going to make for a great year this year! I’m ready for some wins and I’m going to take it as far as I can!”

Open mats are at Memorial @5:30-6:30 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays in the wrestling room. Although not required, the opportunity is recommended for learning new skills before the season begins.

If you are interested in joining wrestling, you can attend the winter sports meeting on October 30th @5:30 PM, and text 715-577-0417 or 715-210-5578. OR message the women’s wrestling page on instagram: @mhs_womenswrestling

Join us as we approach the 2024-2025 wrestling season. We look forward to seeing more girls in wrestling this year!
