Fellow Abes, we have some gouda news: there’s a new club available for all cheese connoisseurs of any level to join. Initially, the staff at The Talon were very curious about this club. When do they meet? What do they do? And how did they manage to get nearly 160 students to sign up? Luckily, we received some information from Becca Rouse, co-founder of the Cheese Club.

The initial idea of the ‘Big Cheese Society’ was to promote an environment where anyone could fit in without limitations.
“We wanted to create a club that anybody could be a part of, and because Wisconsin is known for cheese, it was a perfect fit,” says Rouse, “We talked to administration and got our idea approved, made a poster for Club Rush, and we were thrilled when over 100 students signed up in September.”
If this information is already giving you FOMO, do not worry. Cheese Club meets monthly in the North commons during ELT, and everyone would love to see you there. According to Rouse, some things that you can expect during these meetings include, “learning about different types of cheese, cheese testing, and taste-testing a different cheese each month.” These meetings will happen throughout the rest of the year, and the club leaders are hoping for new ideas from their large membership.
Because the students at this school can be divided into many different groups — athletes, honor students, musicians, and more –– it can be hard for some to find a place where everyone feels welcome. Thankfully, Memorial’s Cheese Club provides a space for all cheese lovers to belong; where they can explore not just different types of cheese, but the importance of this agricultural practice to our home state of Wisconsin.
